A click is when someone actually clicks on the add a hit is just when someone views your page

Hi,
Hit can be any filetype (.gif, .css, .js)....a Visit is typically a hit on a page, like .html, .php, etc. depending on the context.

I think you would be not able to get the perfect answer for your excellent question.

I think both are quite similar on their way.

The answer may be a little different when talking about humans or robots and crawlers, also if talking about the adwords or text link ads.

Hits Example:

Say I have a web page (index.html), and on the page I have 3 graphics (1.jpg, 2.gif, 3.png).

A hit is the count of requests for each individual resource, so bringing up that page in your browser would give me 4 hits - 1 for the page (.html), and one for each of the pictures (.jpg, .gif, .png)

My site stats woud also record that as 1 visit.
