Any idea on how I can improve my ranking?

Ok I am beginning to become a little disappointed with google. My PS3 website was rank #2 & #3 (switch up every few days) for the entire month of September (would like to note we came online in August). Then here comes October, I guess we aren't like for that month because then we drop to #6 and kept floating from #6-#12.

I post PlayStation 3 news before the rest of the websites. I admit I slack off on adding new previews but that's going to change, I just been busy. But there isn't another website that is being more updated than me. I have more news than majority of the PlayStation 3 websites out there. Yet our ranking is suffering. I didn't change my ingredients when I was #2 and #3 last month. I am doing the same thing.

What gets me is that out of nowhere, last week MaxPS3.com pops up and is #4. When just two weeks ago it wasn't even in top 20. I have never seen that website listed on Google in my life for the keyword PS3 until last week. It has a blog format which I guess is helping it out, but it shouldn't help them out that much. I think blogs should be treated the same as regular websites personally.

Another thing SmashMyPS3.com has past me up. I mean are you serious? This website has ZERO PlayStation 3 news and doesn't even get updated. But somehow someway, in two weeks their ranking kept increasing by the day. Now they're sitting at #9.

My website is PS3.net. I mention the keyword PS3 on my page more than any other site. So that can't possibly be the problem.

What more does Google want from me? I have a VERY key domain name, that alone should make me do good. I have news stories other websites don't even post and I have it posted before the rest. The only possible thing I can do is keep switching up the top stories and recent previews.

Anyone have any suggestions on how I can improve? I am starting to get desperate and look into some SEO's companies and paying them to help increase my ranking, and never in my life did I think I would have to do that.

The best thing is waiting game. Now there is some abnormality in google SERP. I too lost lost of postions and even out of the map in certain keywords. So my advice is just wait and increase your back links.

Yes, a waiting game is right. You just went live a short time ago. Depending on the competitiveness, it can take 4 - 8 months to get good posiitoning in Google. You just need to be patient.

As far as just adding a lot of keywords to your pages. That really isin't going to get you anywhere, but penalized. Make the text look natural throughout the site. MSN likes lots of keywords, keyword rich domains, but Google looks at a lot more.

Few things to do:
1/ What is your main keyword phrase? Is it PS3? If so, try to get some more secondary phrases to help bring in traffic. You can use the Overture Suggestion Tool for that.

2/ You need quality link exchanges. Look for related sites and exchange links with them. The key is RELATED.

3/ Submit your site to directories. There are a ton of free ones out there, but some good paid ones as well. I always recommend the Yahoo Directory, DMOZ (very, very important to Google), MSN Small Business Directory, and maybe JoeAnt.

This will help you get your "core" site done. Your goal is for Google to look at your site as an authority site, and your site is still way to young.

Research in these forums, and you'll find all the answers you need to get your site positioned nicely.

Hope this helps.

Thanks a lot! I will be searching for some more directories to submit the website to today and tomorrow. I did this and submitted my RSS feeds (which boost my ranking in yahoo like 2 days later) in the first month of us being open.

Going to work on improving the backlinks also.

Thanks guys!

I agree because google is the most upredictable SE, maybe the best is doing nothing and wait.

i think this is true to some forum sites. i've read in a thread here that links in signatures are ignored by google for those sites that uses the rel="nofollow" attribute. Athough in the google blog it specified for bloggers, forums also apply these. Ozzuuses this attribute.

go have a look then. People aren't going to name forums that don't use rel="nofollow" because those forums aren't going to appreciate people going there and making a few useless spammy posts just to get backlinks.
