Does inter-linking sites on a network affect the rankings?

If you have a huge network of sites and you inter-link them(site-wide links), then is there a chance of your site getting banned?
Are there any negative results of the same and is it an unethical way of SEO that invites the ire of search engine algorithms?

And if yes, what are the solutions and chances for getting back in the rankings? Is removing the links from the network and building back-links on other sites and directories an option?
PLEASE SUGGEST A SOLUTION!!!

Thank you all...

Hello Om,

Warm Greetings to you...and hope you are doing great :)

Having huge network of websites and interlinking them is somewhat a nice IDEA...and the chances of getting them banned in Google has not heard so far...so u can be lucky enough if it hasn't started yet...

But to be on a safe side...you can follow the simple steps..

1. Link Good PR sites to Low PR sites...instead OF VICE VERSE
2. as becoz all the sites are hosted on a same IP..it will be wise to get a different IP for all your websites...its really cheap...something around USD 2
3. Instead of linking one to all...Try this...A 2 B, B 2 c and so on...

Other than this...you can always go with building back links for your website...

Get your sites listed in Google, Dmoz, Yahoo and Msn...and dats it...you are all over the world...

Best of luck buddy...

Regards

It is exactly the way you explained. They are on different IPs and also are inter-linked alternatively. I am kind of sure that this is not the reason for the fall in the rankings. The thing i wanted to be sure and also I had this fear that it should not be "Link Farming" in any way? I hope it is not...
Thanks for the response..:)
