SERPs depend on Quality back links.
As for your information forums have less quality back links and traffics.

Please let us know your domain name.....
I think heavy traffic can improve your ranking consider some movie production sites and big brands as pepsi, their sites are not so good at SEO but they have good ranking.

Search engine ranking and high page rank is based on the quality backlinks that you submitted or listed your site like forums. Getting more hits is based on the web traffic or the users visited your site.

don't use hits to get the ideas how well your site get traffic. you need to focus on unique visitors or pageviews. PR and listing don't depend on traffic.

As far as I know, quality backlinks have factor on a traffic but the main factor of this is the content of your site.

I would personally stop worrying about "PR & Hits"... What you NEED to be focusing on is "Traffic Vs. Conversion" rates. Isn't that why we are all in Business to begin with, Converting traffic into buyers?

I would much rather have a site that is a PR-1 & 150,000 hits per month with a 4% conversion than a PR-7 & 400,000 hits per month with a .032% conversion.

I think all the Hyped up Measuring tools out there have mislead allot of people from the main objective in Virtual Businesses, Mainly the primary Objective of Making money, Not Medals....

While PR, Alexa, Etc. Rank Status may be something people like to wear PROUD on their chest & show off (Like a Medal). It says NOTHING about the actual Financial success of a business. I have seen More PR-1's making triple in monthly revenues than PR-5's (Thats a Fact)....

I wish you Luck!
