Google Earth 5.0 is released and available for download. Now you can "Dive beneath the surface and visit the deepest part of the ocean, the Mariana Trench".

Quote:
In the new ocean layer, you can plunge all the way to the floor of the sea, view exclusive content from partners like BBC and National Geographic, and explore 3D shipwrecks like the Titanic.

Other highlights of this release:
Quote:
-If you've ever wondered how your neighborhood has changed throughout time, Google Earth now gives you access to the past. With a simple click, check out suburban sprawl, melting ice caps, coastal erosion, and more.

-Take placemarks a step further and record a free-form tour in Google Earth. Simply turn on the touring feature, press record, and see the world. You can even add a soundtrack or narration to personalize the journey.

New version of Google Earth is really rocking !! Google Earth can now highlight areas of the ocean that are not capable of supporting life such as this dead zone off the coast of Florida. It also lets them travel back in time to see earlier versions of the service’s aerial and satellite photography.

given some of your difficulties with Ubuntu, I'm surprised you haven't already found an alternative.

It works great for the things I normally do, it's when I try to do something I don't really need to do that I start having problems.

In a sense, it keeps me out of trouble and from wasting too much time.

I am planning on getting a new computer soon with windows on it though. that way I will have a Work computer, Play computer, and a Helper/Server I can leave running at night to do long repetitive tasks like converting thousands of images.

To tell the truth I don't think this addition is all that great. Would be better if they got down there with a sub and imitated Street View ... although that would be very expensive.

Only of wrecks and reefs and the like, of course (the rest would be quite boring), which do indeed look like big mountain ranges with no forests around.

I can't help but think about those shows with the deep sea treasure hunters I've been seeing on the Discovery Channel lately.

I wonder if they all use the same technology ? :scratchhead:
