Hi

What are the best ways for geo-targeting?

If I have a site that caters for a UK audience, for example, and host it on a US server, will this prevent it from appearing in Google.co.uk and choosing UK websites only?

What are the factors that determine in which country-specific SERPS a site will appear?

Thanks

No...but some recommendations:

1/ Host it in the same country you are going after.
2/ Give the domain the extension of the country you are going after.
3/ Add meta language and country code tags to your site.
4/ In Google Webmaster Tools, set your targeted country.
5/ Make sure to have your full address in the footer of every page on your site.
6/ Submit to Yahoo, Google and MSN local.
7/ Do link exchanges with web sites in that country.

Should help!

Thanks Veto. All makes sense.
Do you know what the country meta tag is?
Is it simply <meta name="country"? And are the values abbreviated or in full (eg. should we I use UK or United Kingdom)?

Can anyone recommend some UK and Australian local directories similar to Yahoo, MSN and Google (which are all US)?
