Just when you thought Apple was cool, here comes Google. Once again, it aims to be cooler than the coolest.

A new smartphone is debuting on Sept. 23, and, no, it's not just another iPhone clone. The HTC Dream from T-Mobile will be the first handset to run Google's new mobile operating system, Android.

I'm going to see if I can leverage the something like 7 years I've been with T-Mobile to get one of these phones for free.
My contract is going to be up for renewal pretty soon. :D

hmm the kicker will be the contract. The huge thing the iPhone has going for it is AT&T's data and talk plan. Right now data is an "Add-On" feature for most of not all of T-Mobile's line. I doubt Google has the pull to get a carrier to change their offerings the way Apple can.

Hell I was getting unlimited Internet on my phone through T-Mobile for about $5 a month. Unlimited text messaging is 3X as much.

I just went online on my phone, and when I tried to go to a website other than the T-Mobile site it took me to a page letting me know fees applied, or that I could press some key code, like *123# (I don't remember what it actually was) and get unlimited Internet for, I think it was $4.99 a month.

I was getting it for that price untill maybe 2 months ago when I had it taken off because I wasn't using it as much as I used to.

Unlimited text messages are freaking $14.99 a month. It doesn't seem to make any sense, untill I take into consideration that SMS messaging can communicate with email servers & I get maybe 1 spam text message every 6 months.

yeah at&t texts are:
$5 - 200
$15 - 2000
$20 - unlimited

Whers the 10 for 1000? I will go over 200 but dont' want another 120 a year for like 200 texts.

Iphone has a few things over the android:
hardware compatibility... I hate to think of manufacturers having their own take on what degree of a tilt it will take to trigger an action.
Also, eventhough some hate itunes to use it, the program backs up your phone all the time, safeguarding loss of data.
Without a "mothership" program from google that forces you to dock, you may lose things... important things..

The point of Android is that you don't have to be part of an elite club to be allowed to write applications for the phones. :)

Who here thought at the time 2 years ago Google would be competing with Apple in the telecommunications market?

Google's growing faster than Cartmans trapper keeper.

They'll outgrow themselves eventually, just like Microsoft did.

Im just kinda intrigue with Google's Android. How can it revolutionize mobile OS? Or is it like Symbian?

I wonder how long it will be until "user added programs" are uploaded that will say delete your contacts.

I am scared of that. Not blindly going to say no, but until I see how they respond to the first malicious programs uploaded, I'm staying away from it.

Google released their phone on this Android operating system. . It has a built-in compass, which displays a 360-degree Google Street view based on location. Also it support for YouTube videos. It will compete Apple's 3G iphone. When did it came to India. I am eagerly waiting for that phone.
