Hey there,

I have a website that is doing really well in the yahoo search results.

However, it appears to have fallen in the google search results recently.

Some parts of my client's website were down for a few hours because our hosting service decided to disable a few coldfusion tags without giving anybody any notice.. that was nice of them wasnt it..

I am not sure if that is the reason for dropping in ranks.

However, the website was just remodeled so it has a bunch of fresh content.

Is there a way to check to see if it is over-optimized for google?

I would love some good advice, but I guess everybody is going to have different opinions about this.

Well, I will ask nonetheless. Suggestions and advice are welcome.

Sincerely,
Travis Walters

You just have to wait for some time to gain your previous ranking since you've made some modifications on your site. Have you done on-page and off-page optimization?

Your site not over optimized in Google. The reason why there is drop of rankings because google data center is frequently updating the fresh data and always changing the ranking. Continue with the link building of your site using your targeted keywords.

Hey there,

Yes, I have done on-page and off-page optimization. Most of my backlinks are to the home page, but I could start link building some of the internal pages such as the map search. The links would probably appear more natural that way anyway.

Patience is a virtue I do not have heh..

Actually, I am starting to work on my programming website again. I am going to do that for a week or two, then check out how the real estate site is doing in the rankings.

I did not realize my client's website was only 7 months old. I thought he told me it was a year and a half old, so I must have been mistaken.

His main competitor has a website that is 7 years old. Not only that, but his competitor has a keyword in the domain name.

I did not promise I could beat that, but I think I fullfilled my duty to get him high in the rankings. I would just love to see his site to be in the top three for all keyword phrases.

Do you think it would be possible for his website to pass his main competitor or do you think those two factors are too much to overcome?

Thanks for any suggestions and thanks for the great feedback so far.

You guys are the best :)

Sincerely,
Travis Walters

It is possible that you can beat your competitor even he has the main keyword on it's domain, and the age gap of your site from the other! The question is how well do you build links? the quality link building is mostly recommended like what I've said, just continue on what you are doing because it is a long process.

Is your website over-optimized?

Some "SEO experts" recommend that you should have H1 tags on your web sites in any case. Others say that you must have this element and that element on your web pages.
If you follow the advice of all of these experts then it's likely that your web pages are over-optimized. Don't listen to everything you hear in SEO forums.

How to avoid over-optimization

It depends on your keywords, on your competition and on many other factors if you should use special elements on your website or not. For example, it might make sense not to use the H1 tag on your web pages if other factors are more important for your keyword.
This is why we developed the top 10 optimizer tool. The top 10 optimizer tool analyzes the web pages that currently have a top 10 ranking for your keyword. Since these pages have top 10 rankings, they must have done something right.
IBP analyzes the top ranked pages and then it tells you in plain English how to change your own web pages so that your site can get top 10 rankings. IBP analyzes on-page factors as well as the structure of the inbound links.
IBP's recommendations are based on the analysis of the current top 10 results and they are specifically for your keyword, your website and Google (or any other search engine that you specify). IBP only recommends special web page elements if they are successfully used by top ranked web pages.
In contrast to other tools, IBP does not give general advice that often leads to over-optimization.
Over-optimizing your web pages can harm your rankings on Google and other major search engines. Use the right tools to find out how to optimize your web pages without upsetting Google.

It depends on how you work out your SEO plan and what you do for getting top.
If you can beat your competitor's backlinks strategy and can build more relevant contents with high valued backlinks then Surely you can.....

All the best :)

But try to get quality back links for your site.
Because one quality link can replace 50 non-quality links.

changes to website structure or maybe remodel could lead to some changes on the index. maybe overtime you could receive back your ranking if everything that is required to get your site up there is in place.
