Google results change & reversion??

For about the last month or so google's ranking for my main area was static... then the day before the rankings change and my site goes from #7 to #3. As of yesterday afternoon the rankings are back to exactly where they were before... any idea what this is??? i just got some higher PR and a bunch of new links through some text link buys so i figured when it went up that was why... so now don't know why it's not only back to where it was before but the SERPs are the same as before they changed... did i just catch a server that was showing newer results that hadn't filtered to the rest? or was it just some temporary fluctuation? or something else?

Yes I would say that you were looking at a different datacenter when that rankings rose and then a different datacenter again when the rankings fell again.
