Im just wondering how long google takes before your site starts showing up in search results if your page shows up in the cache.
Im assuming there is a lag.

Not sure if being in the cache and ranking in the serps are related. I think once your in the cache you should be in the index....almost immediately. But ranking in the serps for a term also requires other criteria.

there is usually about a 3 months time for google to index you and for you to show up.

First when your site is picked up it gets its initial PR (usually about a 3-4)...then the following month your PR will go up and down according to you links and what you do as far as gathering links....and then the third month you should see some type of ranking in the index.

Linking is not the only factor dont forget on page content and more and more theme is becoming more important.

Yes, I wouldn't agree on the length of time it takes to get indexed or even ranked well. It all depends on your site's content, the links it has pointing to it, the business competition it has, and getting that all important DMOZ listing.

I think the terms may have a factor as well. You can get a site to rank well for a non-competitive term faster then a term in an industry targeted by the so called "hilltop" thingy....if it even exists

2 things

1. It does not take 1-3 weeks to get listed in google. I want to see a site that is made and get ranked it 2 weeks. Google does reindex sites that are in google already everyday but new sites still take 2-3 months or even more.

2. As far as the hilltop goes here is an article on it
http://www.cs.toronto.edu/~georgem/hilltop/

and from what I am seeing google is moving towards this authority hilltop theory.

IF you are lucky and spider hits you may bet in early

I see it already most of the top sites are authority to google that is why you see them getting away with more then other sites.

Its getting into the top sites that is a drag.

I can get a site into the google index in 2 - 4 days.

I operate a site, that is a PR7 - it is a news site. We have about 160,000 pages indexed and the site is crawled many times a day.

Stories are often picked up by google news, and their bots hit the site about 150k times per month.

The cached page at google is updated every two days (for the homepage). I've found that if I put a link from the homepage to a new site that we setup, the new site will be crawled and indexed within 4 days (usually 2 days, but I'm saying 4 days to be on the safe side).

Obviously, having such a powerful site linking to you gets you listed faster. I have no idea if the site is considered authortative by google or not.
