i.e sending data to them to rank what sites you visit?

Or does it just display the alexa data?

That's a good question Jess, I'm not familiar with how Alexas toolbar works so I can't say for sure.
Does Alexas' toolbar send anything other than urls, as in parts of pages ?

It's also attaching a winXP IE6+Alexa+toolbar user agent to the request header,

Acording to Alexa, this is the information they collect.

1 : Your IP address, which may include a domain name. //Would be logged by server.

2 : The full URL of the Web page you are visiting. //Would be appended to that url above.

General information about your browser. // that extension is basically "spoofing" this, which will cause Alexa to be miscounting user agents.

General information about your computer's operating system. // same as browser

Your Alexa cookie number. // this will be broken for sure...

The date and time the above information is logged. // once again logged at server.
Strong with this one, the sudo is.
