For the record, Google Toolbar adds that to IE or you can setup IE to Google search highlighted words yourself as well. (Explained here)

I like the fact that Google shows support for Firefox, I "made the switch" not too long ago. :)

Another one for Firefox,
https://update.mozilla.org/extensions/m ... 1&vid=1078
Google PR & Alexa rank bars are shown in the browser status bar. Right-click backlinks for MSN, Yahoo, & Google. (haven't tried the backlink part.. code is clean though)

Does this one work like alexa toolbar ?

i.e sending data to them to rank what sites you visit?

Or does it just display the alexa data?

That's a good question Jess, I'm not familiar with how Alexas toolbar works so I can't say for sure.
Does Alexas' toolbar send anything other than urls, as in parts of pages ?

It's also attaching a winXP IE6+Alexa+toolbar user agent to the request header,
Quote:
User-Agent","Mozilla/4.0 (compatible; MSIE 6.0; Windows NT 5.1; .NET CLR 1.1.4322; Alexa Toolbar)

As well as a modified-since.

Googles is working the same way.

Acording to Alexa, this is the information they collect.

1 : Your IP address, which may include a domain name. //Would be logged by server.

2 : The full URL of the Web page you are visiting. //Would be appended to that url above.

General information about your browser. // that extension is basically "spoofing" this, which will cause Alexa to be miscounting user agents.

General information about your computer's operating system. // same as browser

Your Alexa cookie number. // this will be broken for sure...

The date and time the above information is logged. // once again logged at server.
