Hi there

I have noted that for the same keyword my website is positioned in yahoo and google with a huge difference....

example some key is n1 in yahoo and not even listed in the top 100 in google or viceversa.

How can that be?

There are several factors that play a role in that, the best way to sum it up for you is that both Googles & yahoo's Mathematical Algorithms are programed differently (Thus apply different weight values for various elements).

In addition, there are sites out there that are not listed with yahoo, yet they are with Google (Or vise Versa). In this case it would be obvious that due to more competition in Google Vs. Less competition in yahoo for the same search phrase would equate to different SERP Listings.

Only Google & Yahoo know their exact weight distribution formula for mathematical algorithmic Placements.

Hope this helped a bit, I wish you the best..

There is a specific range % of keywords repitition on a page that is best for google and yahoo both. Once you learn that, you'll be able to rank higher. Also backlinks with proper anchor text also plays a major role. I have optimized sites that show up in top 5 on both google and yahoo at the same time :)

As Google and Yahoo! continue their volley of product offerings, I thought it would be useful to compare the interface design solutions each company employed to solve similar user needs. In other words: how does Yahoo’s version of a product (Maps, Local Search, Image Search, etc.) compare to Google’s? Though some product offerings are virtually indistinguishable (Web Search, Image Search), others differ significantly (Groups, Product Search).

At a high level, Yahoo! has better integrated business goals with their product designs. For example, their comparison shopping site features multiple entry points that better match consumer shopping behaviors (browse by brand, browse by category, featured products, etc.) than Froogle’s single search box. Yahoo! also has more robust answers to vertical information finding (Travel, Finance, Movies, etc.) than Google’s Web Search features. That doesn’t negate the value of Google’s simple solutions to these tasks. It’s just that a simple solution sometimes requires something in addition to (or other than) a search box.

They are showing different results because they have different algorithms, bases, and factors in ranking websites. Yahoo puts more weight on on-page factors(keywords, KW usage, content, density, etc.) while Google is more on off-page factors (links, relevancy, etc). BTW try to read these articles:

It is obvious to get different results in different search engines because they have their own specific algo for searching a keyword.

My suggestion - Just make everything with the nice touch for all search engines including META tags placement, relevant content optimization and regular link building for your website. And, you can come up in rankings but differences are for sure.
