In case you hadn't heard, apparently Google has plans to enter and perhaps completely revamp the cellphone industry.

I was reading the Wall Street Journal the other morning and saw an article that speculated Google may be closer than ever to this, but still faces a lot of opposition from communications companies as well as security and privacy issues.

Thought I'd start this topic for discussion.

I've heard about that G Phone and there is also a humor that they will not create one and now the issue is back! Wow What do you think Yahoo's future action?

In a move likely to kick off an intense debate about the future shape of the cellphone industry, Google wants to make it easier for cellphone customers to get a variety of extra services on their phones -- from maps to social-networking features to video-sharing. To get its way, however, the search giant will have to overcome resistance from wireless carriers and deal with potentially thorny security and privacy issues.

It has been suggested that the gPhone offer an ad-supported phone service in which users watch a 10 to 30 second advertisement before making a call.
