Lol, I really don't feel like someone who had a paid site 4 a year. I guess most people spend there time wiser. I have a free one now which i am promoting. I have left loads of links in appropriate forums and plan to keep posting, but can someone direct me to a program/site that will tell me how many links from sources ( forums really) I have? I use firefox seoquake, perhaps i need to wait before all the links show up. thnx 4 reading.

There are lot of ways and a lot of tools you can use. Try to search "backlink checker" and you can choose any of those and start comparing.

You can try tools to check backlinks. I used link popularity checker. As an alternative you can try manual checking.
For Google: link:www.example.com
For Yahoo: site:www.example.com
