Is there any list available for tasks to be performed under SEO process or can anyone tell me about he steps for SEO of a website ,just from the begning?

There are a lot of "steps" to make when trying to promote a website.
First of all, make sure your copy is not too long, had enough keywords that reflect the purpose of your website. As soon as you got your website structure ready, submit a sitemap to Google and make sure you start putting it (the site, that is) to directories.
That's just some of steps of the beginning process. Try and find a fre software called WebCEO, it could help you A LOT!
