Yes, I did mean the backlinks update. Like I said, I'm new to this. I was thinking of the old Google system with the Googlebot performing an occasional deep crawl, while Freshbot did the more regular but shallow updates.
Thanks for the estimate. The website which I'm maintaining has dropped in its rankings, since I renamed a bunch of files and moved some others. I expect that a backlinks update will increase its rankings dramatically, but that remains to be seen.
You are absolutelly right dekanos. There is deep Google crawling unlike the crawling of pages with high page ranking that happens even on a dayly basis. For example google crawls adobe's, microsoft's, yahoo's etc. pages all the time. Means there are main crawl and the fresh crawl.
As for the question; i suppose that nobody knows for sure when the deep crawling happens. It's scheduled by the google staff in order to avoid some missusing of page ranking. For example there are people who just want as higher ranking as possible so they do not care about the way to achive that.
They simply create some scripts or code that actually makes your website that it's currently visited by 1.000 uniques while there is noone.
