I searched this forum and found a couple threads on the topic, but no concrete answers.

In searching the web I found a few sites that accurately calculate (or more likely fetch) the PageRank value. I've emailed some of the webmasters with this question, but not heard back (big surprise).

I'd like to be able to check PR with a script. Any help you can provide would be great. Most specifically, I'm looking for the crc algorithm - either code or pseudocode would do fine, I can implement the rest.

You might be heading into intellectual property here, I'm not sure anyone is going to be willing to give up their crack of google's algorithm here

I think it could be useful, I can see how it might be useful to have if you were to manage a reciprical links list.

It would be very useful - I'm working on links management project which supposed to manage the process of finding/requesting/confirming link exchange - the links are being fed into the program from public directory and if you know PR and sites' ranking its already making your linking strategy higher quality and saves you a lot of time.

At work they took away my google toolbar because they said it was causing conflict in other programs (who the hells knows what I think its just a stab in the dark from a lamer tech guy) anyways id like to be able to check PR's somehow too.

If you look into Google's Directory - all the links listed there have their PR bars that reflect curretn PR, so there is a way to show it via some kind of script. Need to search around may be there is someone who figured it out.

If anybody has any info please don't hesitate to share with us

They would have to be listd in DMOZ to be included in the Google Directory, and the Google Directory only shows the PageRank of the page that the directory lists, none of the others.

There is supposedly some CRC algorthim as Header stated which is the key to being able to extract Google PageRank. However, even if you were to do that it would be against the TOS from Google, so I wouldn't recommend it.

I wouldn't think either, but using API for automated queries is another way to go around G's TOS which is stated "You may not send automated queries of any sort to Google's system without express permission in advance from Google." And then under Google Web APIs (beta) "Your Google Account and license key entitle you to 1,000 automated queries per day." well, of course if they smell something fishy- they will get that sorry @$$ wright away.

Gemini, this is old but perhaps still relevant:
http://www.searchnerd.com/pagerank/

here is a ranking site that uses the Google API:
http://gorank.com/

I was at a site a week ago that would give the PR of an inputed url, cannot remember, though....

Why don't you just use alexa.com for page rank?

http://www.alexa.com/data/details/?url=www.ozzu.com/ Ozzu.com is number 12,000 :D

You're welcome, Gemini.

mmlen, Alexa rankings are a good indicator for the top 100,000 sites, but you can manipulate results to a cerain extent as the ratings are based on the Alexa Toolbar. This is a different ranking form Page Rank.

Page Rank is one of the few "objective" measures that Google has public.

Ozzu is kicking big butt (PR 8) !

This one is nice too :) But http://www.top25web.com/pagerank.php checks up to 50 links at the time and doesn't require confirmation code to avoid automated requests.

Thanks, it's still a good tool and resource.

That's an interesting one gemini....It gave me some odd results on a few domains. Both currently have a PR of 5 and it said one would go to a 10 and the other would drop to a zero. Other domains I tried had more realistic increases and decreases.....

I'd like to see the algo for this one :)
I checked on my competitor that disappeared form Y! - his PR is 5 will go up to 7 :( it makes me feel not too good about my future positioning on big G. Sure that guy doesn't use "white hat" techniques, and I'm trying to stay out of it, but I'll be sure pissed off it he moves me down.

can somebody explain the importance of page rank? ive read all of the sites posted and its generally a number 1-10 (most of my sites keyed in 4-6.. is that good?)

what are page ranks used for?
how are page ranks determined?

I know its cheeky but the guy you mentioned above is doing it so he should expect the same

http://www.top25web.com/pagerank.php

simply interface with his form using a get function (depends on your language)

parse the returned page to get the PR

send it to your own page and pretend its your tool ;)

He's done it to google, so he has no right to complain (imho)

that way if google cracks a poo, he gets the blame not you :)

Google uses pagerank to determine how important a site is

when it returns the result of a search it tries to calculate how well your page relates to the search term

then to sort the pages into the final order it uses pagerank

so say 10 sites get exactly the same score for relavance to a search term
the one with the highest pagerank would get listed first.

pr 4 is pretty average
pr 6 is good and you can sell text links based purely on that. extra income for all the work you have done :)
