hi guys while browsing through this site mesothelioma-aid.org I found that it has page rank 5 but it does not have a single back link. Even if it does its back links are displayed in omitted results.
Can a site get a page rank 5 this way.

Sure it can if they're coming off the right type of pages. :)

I suppose again it depends on whether the pages link to you already have high page ranks. It also depends on how long your site has been established and whether you bought it fresh or whether it had a PR when you bought it. Once it has a pagerank, it will improve search results.

We have had a site called http://www.crearecommunications.co.uk. We bought this domain 6 months ago fresh without a pagerank. We have optimised it, added RSS news feed and as we are a web design company, so we have just over 600 links from sites we have designed as well as optimised etc.

Back to the question, yes it is possible, depending on quality rather than quantity (although a quantity or quality links will improve it even more!)

That site is a 6 year old site. has more than 100 pages and more than 400 yahoo site explore backlink.

So PR 5 is not strange at all.

Google only shows a small portion of backlinks it knows about. I am showing over 400 in Yahoo and up to 1,800 in altavista, so Google is probably in the same area as yahoo, they just refuse to show them.

Also, the site is a .org , this gives more weight in google and the title is non competetive, so fewer links gains higher PR with less links.

Let me give you an example. mexia texas real estate in the title may only need 100 quality backlinks to gain pr4, but if the title has dallas texas real estate it may take over 2k links to get to pr 4.

The amount of links, quality of links and what the site are targeting has a lot to do with PR.

Hiya All - Any of you guys running firefox with the SEO Quake plug in installed? This is available for IE too now. Remember that google data is inaccurate, so check yahoo data if you're looking for links. This site has been around since 2002 and has tons of links.
