Hi friends,

It has been a long time since I am revisiting the forum. I have been one of the silent visitors to this forum and really like the kind of discussions going on here.

Recently I have come across a very strange thing on Google search.

When I search one of our site on Google it shows 15,000 pages indexed however I am sure it is more then that.

site:www.india-forums.com

http://www.google.com/search?q=site%3Awww.india-forums.com

and it shows over 1,400,000 indexed pages when searching for

site:www.india-forums.com india

http://www.google.com/search?q=site%3Awww.india-forums.com%20india

Now why is this discrepency is still a mystery. Any member faced the same problem. Though it has not significantly affected our Search Traffic but still its a concern on how it went down sharply.

Well it may sound strange though the indexed pages shown on Google is just 15,000 but Google crawls 99989 pages on an average daily.

Cheers,

Ok, but once again, have you checked these results against the stats in google web master central? there are more stats and data in the web master central than just crawl rate. Most of these can indicate if there are inconsistencies.

We're sorry...

... but your query looks similar to automated requests from a computer virus or spyware application. To protect our users, we can't process your request right now.

We'll restore your access as quickly as possible, so try again soon. In the meantime, if you suspect that your computer or network has been infected, you might want to run a virus checker or spyware remover to make sure that your systems are free of viruses and other spurious software.

We apologize for the inconvenience, and hope we'll see you again on Google.

IMHO this is not new thing cause when Google returns thousands of records and you straight goes to the last page instead of the next page very quickly then Google identify it as an automated query.

Anyways.. seems like no one else is facing this problem...

Well.........it is normal as both terms you are searching for are different and that's why google shows different no of results.

You will see more different no of results if you search like-
site:www.india-forums.com uk

or

site:www.india-forums.com usa

etc.

Here is your answer----

You can check for your total index pages (including main and suplemental index pages) by entering below in goolge search box-

site:www.india-forums.com

And you will get your pages in main index of google by entering below-

site:www.india-forums.com/*

You can also check for your index pages (main or supplemental) by using below tool-

Right...

But my question is that site:www.india-forums.com should show all the pages indexed by the Google index (including supplemental results too).

BUT its not showing all.

And when you add another keyword it shows you more then a million pages indexed which should have come just using site command.

One question... is the forum a NOFOLLOW or what? I'm sure some members here would understand what I'm asking and would be able to clarify what I mean... I can't think of another thing... other than do you put or have any rel="nofollow" on your links? or something... I'm sure this is just a simple and stupid question :lol:

you can check the page source and check the meta tags on a site to check if it is a no follow site.

eg this site is
<meta name="robots" content="index,follow">

But the individual links have nofollow eg
<a href="http://www.google.com/search?q=site%3Awww.india-forums.com" target="_blank" rel="nofollow">

if you are really worried about back links, so you start posting hardcore on another server, I would probably check the stylesheets aswel just to make sure they havent hidden it there eg,

<a href="gfgf" class="hehehetheywillneverknowitisnofollow">bl

maybe someone with more stylesheet experience can advise but I would think it is possible?

stylesheet can't do anything about nofollow... it's just about styles... what do you mean?

Other than...

Code: [ Select ]
a[rel~="nofollow"]:after {
content: "!";
background-color: white !important;
color: red !important;
font-weight: bold !important;text-decoration: blink !important;
}
  1. a[rel~="nofollow"]:after {
  2. content: "!";
  3. background-color: white !important;
  4. color: red !important;
  5. font-weight: bold !important;text-decoration: blink !important;
  6. }

(Something like that... fast googling :lol:) That only spots the nofollow stuff... doesn't actually do anything about it other than making the nofollow link visible and stand out to the visual not to the spider...

i wasnt sure, I could just imagine some webmaster chucking to himself that he had hidden the no follow tag where someone cant see it.

Glad to know that it cant be dont that way.

also, as another note, the no follow tags that are in the link anchor only stop google from following the link. For yahoo and msn they still count it as a valid back link (At the moment, may change in the future)

You can check by adding your domain to this url, the under yahoo links, click the number and it will take you to a page showing you all the links to your site that yahoo has in its index.

I have left my site so that you can click my thing under yahoo if you dont have nay yahoo links yet.

http://www.submitexpress.com/cgi-bin/li ... smoney.com

You do have to copy and past the link into your broswer window, the link wont work if you click on it.
