Very neat website
According to me, place a vertical link ads between your left navigation tabs
And a half banner below your top picture

Yes it will look great if you put it somewhere between left nav. tabs and somewhere between discussion too

ad banner below your top picture for everypage except welcome page

Add one ad in left navigation and one horizontal ad in the bottom. One banner ad can add blow the image.

Have the largest vertical format on the ads list, put it in on your left side below the menus...
