Supplemental Results

Google is not showing the complete picture it shows lots of Supplemental Results. What you expert's say on this topic.

Very few people agree on what supplimental results are.
I would say supplimmental results are either;
1) pages that don't offer enough unique content to be considered for the main index.
2) pages that have been indexed, But not added to the main index, yet.

do sites come back to the main index after falling in supplementary index? how long does it usually take? I would like to hear about experiences and techniques used by webmasters whose pages have come back from supps.
