Hmm....Some link exchanges could actually do more damage to your site than good. My friend once got his position reduced in Google & MSN due to some popular Link Exchange program.

Hi Crono,

I don't know what link exchange could possibly do harm.

Certainly, there are many rumors floating around regarding "bad
neighborhoods" and such, but they are just people repeating what
they have heard as if it's fact.

I wonder how your friend can be 100% positive exactly why his position
with Google was reduced? Maybe there are things happening that he
is not aware of?

Is there any risk we get penalized for this if we use it?

Why would we be penalized for mutually linking with other sites?

Has someone told you that there is "good" linking and "bad" linking?

Who told you that?

Was it Google?

Was it someone claiming to be an expert?

Was it someone just repeating what they heard somewhere else?

Listen, your home page needs content relevant to the search,
(obviously), and it needs other web pages linked to it.

If a million pages are linking to your homepage, there must be some
thing important about your page, right? This is the strategy of the
search engines to determine the order of the results they display.

If Google, or Yahoo, or whoever, has some sort of emotionally-based,
deep rooted distaste for web sites with certain content, they might not
count links *from* that site, ie, neutralizing those links, but there would
be no reason for them to penalize your page.

Want proof?

Do something that is blantently against Google's rules, like use a lot
of keywords that are the same color as the background of the page.
Wow! Keyword spamming and HIDING IT, OMG!

Most will warn you that you will be severely punished for this haha!

Gees, you'd think their mother is running Google ;)

I'll tell you what will happen. Nothing!

Google's algorithm will simply ignore, those keywords.

well, all this is just one man's opinion :)

Have a look and see what you think...would welcome your feedback.
