C'mon guys, think a little bit for yourself. This is not a good post. It's a list of bullet points, most likely taken from someone else's work, and most likely only posted to spam their own website which was removed from their post the day it was posted. I mean seriously, how on god's green earth does any of that help you? 1 of the points listed in on-site optimization isn't even on-site optimization, and two to 3 others are highly ambiguous. Not to mention the poster doesn't give you one iota of information on how to implement these tips.

I'm sorry, but it's not a good post. It's repetative hogwash that someone regurgitated.

I miss the days when people like Vetofunk & Madmonk actually posted things I wanted to read in the Marketing forums.

Perhaps we'll just have to take it upon ourselves to alter the trend *wink

On-Page Optimization

Quote:
1. Define your Business & Target Audience

Generally something you should have done long before starting the website. It's irrelevant in the scope of search engine ranking.

Quote:
2. Make your Website look Clean & Simple

This is a good point for visitors, search engines aren't going to care, and in most cases be able to see, what the website "looks" like though. So, another irrelevant point.

Quote:
3. Observe your competitor

That's just common business sense there. Another irrelevant point as far as search engines are concerned.

Quote:
4. Research on Keywords

Finally, something that has to do with search engines !
But what does this mean ?

Is this meant for people to learn from, or for other trolls to pickup on and add their brainless comments to ?

Quote:
5. Structure File name

What ?
This makes no sense at all.
Structure file name how ?

Quote:
6. Search Engine Friendly Sitemap

SE friendly ?!
Site maps were invented for search engines in the first place !

Quote:
7. Write an Attractive Title for homepage

A relative title would be better. I could add the title "Paris Hilton could suck the chrome off a trailer hitch" but it wouldn't help me to rank any better for my knitting supplies site.

Quote:
8. Meta Description Tag

Double quarter pounder, with cheese.

What's a meta description tag ?

Quote:
9. Meta Keyword Tag

Sure I'll have fries with that.

Is this what I use to research my keywords ?

Quote:
10. Must Have Robot tags

So I just add something like this to my site and I'm good to go ?

Code: [ Select ]
<robots rank_me="#1" for="everything"/>

Quote:
11. Alt Tags for images

Ok I think I get it now, instead of using <img> to show my images, I do this instead ?

Code: [ Select ]
<alt src="image.peg"/>

I don't know, I think the alt attribute for an <img> tag works pretty well. :scratchhead:

Quote:
12. Improve Keyword Prominences, Density & Proximity

"Prominences" isn't even a word !

Oh wait, I get it. Like this "article" does right ?

That explains why nobody can understand what the hell any of this means !

Quote:
13. Make Content look rich

Like frosting on a cake ?
Come on, work with me.

Quote:
14. Keyword Rich Anchor Text

Ok, so if I start placing a lot of keywords in the links on my website, I'll get better ranking in search engines ?

Off-Page Optimization

Quote:
1. Search Engines: Submit your website manually to search engines.

That was a great idea, like 10 years ago.
Search engines today have mostly a "Don't call us, we'll call you" attitude. Submitting sites to them manually is a waste of time and anyone who tells you otherwise only does so because they stand to gain something by you doing so.

Quote:
2. Directories: There are many directories available online for free submission. Submit your website into these directories.

Yes, please do.
That way when these directories get dropped from the indexes for being completely devoid of any real content, we can have a flood of people come asking why their sites suddenly vanished from the search engine result pages overnight.

Quote:
3. Forums: Post your comments, thoughts. A you can also provide a link to your website.

Try participating.
You don't get banned as often and your efforts actually start to snowball.

Quote:
4. Blogs: Submit your blog with proper keyword tags, which helps in your blog listing.

Huh ?
Seriously, I'm baffled by this one.

Quote:
5. Articles: Write keyword & content rich articles on your own and post in article junctions available online.

Again please do, I love it when I can paste a sentence into a search engine to find out just how spammy a post is before I delete it.

Quote:
6. Press Releases: You can post Press Releases, which also works like Article junctions & directories; however it should look more like a Press Release and not like an article.

I could have sworn the Internet was like one big press release to begin with. :scratchhead:

I'll bite though. so if I make a press release in my local news paper I'll get better ranking in search engines ?

Quote:
7. Bookmarks: Social book marking - it serves two purposes: It gets you incoming links and it popularizes your website in your community.

You mean there's actually people on these social bookmarking sites and 90% of the accounts aren't just bots ?

Quote:
8. Classifieds: You can put your advertisements there with link to your website.

People go to classified sections to GET AWAY from advertisements and deal directly with people.
You run the risk of getting stabbed when you venture into places setup for the sole purpose of getting away from marketers.

1. Search Engines: Submit your website manually to search engines.

You don't need Submit sites to them manually, you could use IBP to help you.
