If you're going to have a forum for your website would it not make sense to have it listed under a seperate domain name.

My thinking on this is that if the forum is not under the same domain name, that any links to my website would be classed as backlinks (External).
So instead of having hundreds of internal links I would have hundreds of external links instead.

To me this would improve my google ranking more than having the forum under the same domain.

Any thoughts on this? Would that be a sensible way to approach it?

You would probably have the same result just using a subdomain.

Creating subdomain is good for website from SEO point of view because this will improve your backlinks.

Exactly right JCar.

A subdomain is a different domain therefore links from your
subdomain would count as external links (because they ARE external).

Plus, you can keep your root name in front of visitors eyes.
