I'm just curious what techniques you've used (or problems you've fixed!) that have gotten you quick results in terms of search engine traffic. And also, how long did it take to see the results?

I know, I know, SEO requires patience, there are no easy ways, yada-yada

 I'm just curious.

Obviously One-way links or natural links are most valuable links but reciprocal links from most relevant and high quality sites are also useful and you should not avoid them.

Writing articles to selected sites out there. Mind you after a few a hours I got traffic to my sites. You just have to find those sites that Google loves to visit every few hours and use them to your advantage.
