What could be the best way/trick to optimize (off-site and on-site) a website like linkedin.com?

Well......promoting it through social network will be better and effectve idea for these type of site and then you can spreadt it all over the web......

Make sure that your site is search engine friendly. Put meta tags and alt texts. Commenting on related blogs can help too. Oh and don't forget to submit to directories.

The main thing for any social networking website is more registration / members on the website. That's what I also want for that website.
