This is personal, man, I would prefer tomgreen@gmail dot com. People will usually know, it's first and last name automatically -- see the purpose is for the convenience of the sender to your email.

Just out of curiosity, why does it matter to you ?

I don't think anyone really cares as long as it's not something like "free-viagra@gmail.com". All of the important info is in the headers, and in most cases the actual name is included beside the email address.

if it was for a business, I'd suggest Tom.Green@gmail.com however a business most likely wouldn't be using gmail as a primary address. If it's just a personal email, it really doesn't matter. Pick what you like and what's available.

Also the period in the email address doesn't matter. They both go to the same place.

I think there is no any issue about making email ID, you can create it anyway you want.

For personal usage, indeed as stated above, it doesn't really matter you could pick T.Green@gmail.com too or Bugs.Bunny@gmail.com all will be fine.

For business e-mails it's probably more wise use tom.green or tomgreen. Or if you're the director of own company <companyname>@gmail.com. Though many companys have their own domain and own mail-server and have accounts like: tom.green@company.com for example. This way the client will know it really goes to Tom Green and not Bug Bunny who just choose to use Tom.Green@gmail.com and not Bugs.Bunny@gmail.com. You might notice that the name you have in mind is already chosen and you have to change it, add numbers to it or just completely change it.

sidethread: the dot between the first and lastname makes it more readable ;)
