It's better to use two-keyword words instead of targeting just a one-keyword word.

It's better to have "animated screensaver, animated screensavers, animated screen savers, free screensaver, free screensavers, free screen savers" than "animated, free, screensaver, screensavers, screen savers". Anyhow, make sure your content reflects the keywords you use or else they'll just be ignored by the search engines.

I would have thought that might be detrimental... if they click such a keyword and then don't find the content they are looking for, they are more likely to close the browser and never come back (I know I would).

Also, we are trying to get away from this, in my eyes tacky, side of the industry.

thanks for all the advice.

Popular keywords never help much. There'll be tons of other sites with those keywords, so your chances of getting a high ranking are pretty low. Keywords specific to your site help the most - and the more specific they are, the better.
