I take it you guys have not been reading all the news reports on gmail. They read every piece of mail, they can do anything they want with your email contents. You gave them that right as soon as you accepted their terms. And thats not media paranoia, all this was stated by google themselves in interviews for several of the news stories.

I think the more you use the account the more invites you build up.

Hotmail sent me an email sayig that they are going to give us 200MB free space i think...may have only been the same 100MB that yahoo gave me, but id like to be optimistic about it. as for the spam, it seems like when ever an email addy of mine gets like 3-4 months old it starts to get spammed a lot more, i guess the bots are catching up to me.

I heard that MSN will offer 2Gegs storage soon, with 20 Megs attachement.
I think it will be more reliable than Gmail...

Read the terms and conditions.

They get bots to read your email and then they send you email to do with your current mail.

So if i sent you an email about computers. They would send you offers etc about computers.

I don't see what the ballywhoos all about either...its a name plus I should think they're as bad as hotmail or yahoo for email laundering, spam, etc - I guess its just cause its well known

As for the 1Gb and search facilities I've got 2Gb, unlimited file size attachments and 250Mb file uploading with another pay-for service

Hitsco, that 2 gig storage and 20 meg attatchment deal is a pay service, it costs $19.95 per year for all that good stuff. you also dont have to worry about your account expiring if you pay. Im still going to stick to the free emailing...

The news reports I've read have been all over gmail, attacking it for being invasive and conspiratorial.

Guys, no one reads your mail. A computer scans the text to target you with these tiny ads that take up about 150 pixels of the screen. They're text only. I barely notice them.

Gmail offers 1000 MB of storage and a searchable database. I don't care if a computer scans what I'm sending to other people. It's completely worth it for me.

Yes. They're planning to increase storage space to 250 MB this fall.

I've got Gmail and I don't mind computers scanning my email. What's the big deal about this privacy issue? It this is a violation of privacy, what about Google displaying relevant text ads on the Google search?

No.

They don't send any e-mails... They just put some text advertisements on the side of your e-mail when you are reading it, which I never notice anyway :|

Oh, and if anyone wants an invite e-mail me at mrsomeone at gmail dot com. I have a few left to give out.

So many people are giving away free Gmail invites... I pity the people who are still trying to sell them ;)

I've got 2 accounts, and it totally owns Yahoo! or Hotmail. I used Yahoo for about 4 years, and as soon as gmail came out, I switched my main email to gmail. It's VERY nice.
