Post 3+ Months Ago

Hi all! My website has been up and running for 4 months now, and I want to promote it as much as I can! I have been using the following methods....
  • Exchanging Banners/Links
  • One off Search Engine Submissions (Payed $30 a time)
  • Signed up to Google Adsense
  • Posting my site into Yahoo Groups and others...
  • some others.....
What I what to know is that has anyone used website submission software? If so, does it really work? Please reply with your views/comments.

Thanks in advance.

You seem to have the enthusiasm so you may not need not use programs like WPG other than to check your ranking. If your site is ranked along competitive key words then do lots and lots of link exchange with other sites and directories. Also change your forum sign so the clickable text reads "Body Builders Elite".

If you have lots of pages of deferent non-competitive keywords then do concentrate on good short header tags to complement the content on the pages.

If you wanna check it for Google, I use digitalpoint.com's API free rank checking tool. I am sure you can download a trial version of WPG to check all others.

I use a program called "1-Click Rankings", but it might no longer available. You might still be able to find it through Google (or use Google's cache for slightly older sites). I think, however, its part of a bigger package now.

Save your money BigPete. There's only a few search engines that actually deliver traffic and they will find you site anyway.

If you have inbound links, you don't really need to submit to the search engines.

I think you should just personally submit your sites to thew different engines. Different engines look for different things..description tags, categories..and so on. Just because a site says they will submit you to 30,000 different search engines, do people use anything else besides 29,995 of those actual engines. If your in Google, MSN, Yahoo, Dmoz, the other engines will find you.

Bingo! The biggest scam spread on the Internet is that you have to submit to the engines. If you have enough inbound links to rank well, the engines have long ago found you.

As for checking your rank, go to Google, set your preferences to see 100 results at a time and do a search. If you don't come in the top 10 or 20, it doesn't matter -- the difference between the number of sales you can geenrate from being #50 and #5,000 is negligeable. Your time is better spent:

1. Adding content to your site.
2. Adding quality links (not just "link exchanges")

When you rank well, you'll know it from the money in your pocket.

I have to agree. I asked here about a month ago about paying to get my site submitted, and the answer was it isn't necessary. The $30 for a year in ask.com is worth it in my opinion, but the rest of the money I spent really wasn't necessary. Get some good inbound links from sites that rank fairly well and you'll get found in short order. From there you need to work on your content and you'll climb the results from there.

MSN, Yahoo, and a few other small engines will require payment coming up next month. This will include an inclusion cost and a PPC. You will still be able to get in through there free submit, but where, you do not know. I wouldn't suggest doing this just yet. I would wait till we find out what is actually happening in these engines in the next month.

But besides the above, good content and quality incoming links will rise you above all.

One thing we havent mentioned is competition. If you trying to rank high in a very competitve market, it can take a very long time. If you were trying to rank high for "hotels", good luck, because that will damn almost be impossible.
