I still remember way back in the late 90's when Altavista was by far my favorite search engine. I always got descent traffic from them, and they seemed to include my sites fairly quickly. Today it seems much different though, and I rarely ever goto Altavista to find things. Since Google has come out I had found their results seemed to be much better and from that point I have always used Google to find resources or other things on the internet. Kind of funny how times change... so much has changed with everything and the internet.

that reminds me of a research paper i had to do. I chose to write it on what happens behind the scenes when you use windows update.
how it used to be was it scanned your system and filtered out the updates that didn't apply to you and sent the rest.
Nowadays, it has the m.o. to see what kind of hardware you have, what applications are installed on your computer, and other information which can be shared with others (i.e. third party software companies).

on a side note, some of the humorous events on annoyances.org may actually come true one day...

i think my first time was around 1996- 97, but im definitely sure it was before 2000.

Yep, Altavista used to be the man. Then I went to Excite, and now I am with Google.

It's too bad Altavista and ATW are going to be scraped by Yahoo. Oh the memories. Isn't Ask Jeeves still independent?
