I have been looking into OsCommerce (http://oscommerce.com)for a new website and want to know how optimized it is for search engines?
I know that there have been some Url Rewrite mods done and such, but I want to know if sites built using OSCOmmerce are ranked well on search engines.
Any info would be great. Thanks.

since 2 months I've a webshop based on the OScommerce engine and my shop is rated 3 out of 10. Not so good, I know. Still hard working on it to get it higher.

We have a number of oscommerce clients who rank in number 1 spots for top keywords, the best mod you can install IMO -

Agreed. Am using this exact mod on my site. There are quite a few that have 7/10 rankings and such.

zencart.com is a better write but just doesn't have the amount of mods.

Rated #10 out of 3 on what? a Google search? searching for what? or are you just talking about PageRank?

Anyways...

I've got great experiences with osCommerce and the search engines for several clients.

I mean page rank. I don't know if it's good for being about 2 months online. I've compared with my competitors and they have 4 out 10 and are more than 3 years online.[/code]

Pagerank doesn't mean a thing these days. What software your site uses also has nothing to do with PR. PR is all about the amount & quality of backlinks each page has, nothing to do with its content or presentation.

osCommerce is GREAT for doing its job; Which is producing lots of nice pages with your content on them. It's still up to you to give it a good template, optimize the HTML output for the search engines, and put in good quality content.

osCommerce will help you quickly build up the content, but it isn't a single magic wand to make up for other shortcomings.
