'us.geocities.com' is a sub-domain of geocities.com that's all. 'www.geocities.com' is also a sub-domain of geocities.com.

Point to note for SEO purposes 'us.geocities.com' and 'www.geocities.com' are treated as two different sites. Just thought I would bring that up.
