You realize that .edu domains are reserved for educational institutions, not commercial organizations, right?

don't be so concern about .edu or .gov links, google will consider all sites same. You focus on getting relevant links.

The domain tends to be trusted a bit more theoretically.

really? I've encountered some .edu and .gov websites but I am not impressed with there site...
