Just wondering about email marketing . I have been wanting to buy a mailing list and try it out. Not sure if its a con altogether or not..

Maybe, it opens up a whole new approach to me. 8)

anybody with experience in email marketing?
Are the mailing lists that are for sale, FOR REAL?

if you're going to run email campaigns. Gather your own email mailing list that requests the information your giving out. Because general paid lists will give you no results.

Exactly...get an email/newsletter signup on your site and you will get some nice conversion rates.

Paid lists are usually very irrelevant and many of the email addresses are probably not even used anymore.

The worst thing about an email list that you didn't make yourself is you don't know where the emails came from... a lot of scam companies say they have opt-in email lists but don't... i know i have a business website and we get spam complaints just sending to our own customers, much less people who've never heard of us... nothing'll get you kicked off your ISP quicker than them getting a bunch of spam complaints... if you don't own your own email server don't do it because if the ISP's email server gets blacklisted because of you they'll be pissed. if you do do it, make 100% sure it's an opt-in list, and make sure your ISP is ok with it if you don't run your own email server.
