First I'd like to say I've been lurking at ozzu for a while  and have found the posts by everyone very helpful.

I've got a bit of a problem and hopefully someone can explain what's happening.

Recently http://www.somedirectory.com added our page to their directory, google picked it up. Since then, it's listing our site page under their link. (searching for our title for example)

Our main page is no longer indexed under our domain name but under a link http://www.someDirectory.com/link.php?id=XXXX

I'm wondering if this is a problem with our server configuration or is that directory doing something that's messing up google?

thanks.

http://www.google.com/search?sourceid=n ... El3o%2Ecom

This page tells us that google is still listing your site from your url

The fact that the scimatter page links higher than you is probably because googles algorithm tells it that this page is more relevant than your own.

My guess being that it is simply a higher profile site than your own with greater backliniks, PR, popularity, etc.

It happens - it isn't rare.

I cannot see why you would think your main page is being listed as http://www.scifimatter.com/link.php?id=2887 instead of your URL?

Maybe you could explain why you think this?

Thanks for responding :)

Google is indexing our site but no longer the main page. The main page is no longer cached under http://www.l3o.com either and http://www.l3o.com/ no longer appears in google but sub-pages do.

If you do a google search on "horizon space strategy game" it used to bring our site at position 1, it's still does (the title, description is our actual page but not the link).

It's linking to the directory link, which is re-directing (instantly) to our site.

The site is about 1.5 years old. But only became more active for the past 6 months and 2 months ago changed servers / pages were re-designed.

The problem started only a few days ago ever since that directory listing. the main page cache dissapeared and I started wondering if something was wrong.

Well just ran a header check on their server here is what I got:

Server Response: http://www.scifimatter.com/link.php?id=2887
Status: HTTP/1.1 302 Moved Temporarily
Server: Zeus/4.1
Date: Sat, 02 Oct 2004 04:18:38 GMT
Connection: close
Set-Cookie: hits=++2887+; expires=Sat, 02-Oct-04 04:19:38 GMT
Location: http://www.l3o.com/
P3p: CP="CAO DSP COR CURa ADMa DEVa OUR IND PHY ONL UNI COM NAV INT DEM PRE" policyref="www.somesite.com/w3c/p3p.xml"
Content-Type: text/html
X-Powered-By: PHP/4.3.1

The site seems to be hi-jacking ours (knowingly or not). There is a recent long thread about this issue with google here, it's the closest info I have found:

check the link below, if the thread doesn't show you can do a search for "Dupe content checker - 302's - Page Jacking - Meta Refreshes"
