I have noticed Google features a couple of sites at the top of each listing page.

Does anyone know how I get my site featured here? And how much it costs?

Is it a fixed price or a Pay Per Click scheme as with the adwords sponsored links which appear down the right hand side.

I have heard of Adsense but I am not sure if this is anything to do with featrued links. I would be grateful for any advice from some more experienced members.

Yes,
That's Adwords. You just need to bid enough (good CTR as well) to get your listing up there. It's the 1st, 2nd, and 3rd (sometimes shown) spot in Adwords.
