I know that there are numerous web forums out there that are indexed by search engines. Does anyone know where there is a list of them?

I would like to participate in as many as possible and inadvertantly get my site around the web as a result of it being in my signature.

So, in other words, you want to exploit as many forums as possible in order to spam your website's URL? :)

<< Buster frowns and wonders why us webmasters get a bad name - whilst looking at my logs and finding no end of people visiting my website after typing things like "place a free message in a guestbook" - and deleting all their hard 'specialised' promotional work. Another hard day at the office >>

No I don't want to spam. However I've noticed from my regular conversation on an Auburn University Football message board that I have recieved a lot of hits from interested Guitarists who have followed the link in my signature. The same goes for altcountrytabs.com. These are boards that I participate in the normal discussion because I enjoy it and at the same time it helps my site.

I was wondering if there is a list of other boards like that I could find. Or do you just have to stumble across them. It's a lot more fun to get hits to your site through the course of discussion than sending out e-mails for reciprocal links or constantly going through and optimizing each page on your site.

I guess I didn't phrase my original question as innocently as it truly is.

Just type "Webmaster Forum" into Google. You'll get loads of them.

A few webmasterforums off the top of my head:

http://www.ozzu.com :D:D
help.lockergnome.com
http://www.webmasterforum.com
http://www.webhostforum.org

I just checked, and Google has an entire section in their directory dedicated to this:

Thanks for helping me to realize that DMOZ was what I needed to use. Now I can just find a category I'm interested in and then go to the chats and forums section. http://dmoz.org/Arts/Music/Chats_and_Forums/ is exactly what I need.
