Sitemaps are an easy way for webmasters to inform search engines about pages on their sites that are available for crawling or Sitemap is an XML file that lists URLs for a site along with additional metadata about each URL so that search engines can easily crawl the site.

Google Sitemaps is useful in that you can see how Google sees your site. It help to indexed your site too and rank well...But if your site already indexed and rank well is there still a need of sitemap?

Sitemap files have a limit of 50,000 URLs and 10 MegaBytes per sitemap. Sitemaps can be compressed using gzip, reducing bandwidth consumption. Multiple sitemap files are supported, with a Sitemap index file serving as an entry point for a total of 1000 sitemaps.

Yes sir, Sitemap is for user purpose as if user looks for any link on your page and if he did not get it then Sitemap will be very useful for him. It is good to create an HTML sitemap or an XML sitemap. But Googlebot does not read it so you should create an XML sitemap that is easily crawlable by Googlebot and search engine friendly so it will help to quick index all of your new pages.
