Get as much backlinks as you can & also remember to optimise the anchor text because search engines are giving much priority on this algo. 8)

Yea, you can also submit it to Google.

But like snookercue said, the best way is to get links on other sites to your site.

Yep, both of them got it right. Another sure way is to get a DMOZ listing. This always has guaranteed me into Google.

Make sure to vary your links...I have been working on a sandbox theory that if all of your initial links are the same you will get boxed.....mixup the link text and throw in a few that are not even close to what you want to be found as your main search term...I have 3 sites that I have been experimenting with...one is so far in the box I don't know if I will ever get it out it has 100 backlinks all anchored with the same exact text...it's ranked 400+ for that phrase....I have another site that started off with only 10 links all the same...now I have been getting links with different text and the site is starting to rank after three months...not high yet....the last site had different links created from the start...the site was in the index and ranking well for less competitive terms in 1 month...and should rank better after the next update.....this is just theory at this point but I will have a better idea if it works after the next update.....but the jist of it is not to make all your links the same.
