Ok, we just finished our new forums using phpbb:
http://www.redcellpaintballforum.com
Now I need to know how to draw traffic to it?
Do the same rules apply to .php SEO?
Any other suggestions for drawing traffic?

You could swap banners or buy advertising space with other paintball sites. Also, you could join one of those banner networks where your banner with be shown once, everytime 2 banners are shown on your site. If you put a banner at the bottom of every page in the forum that would probably add up to a lot of free impressions.

one tip i'll give you is make sure your forum always looks active. sign up with 10 accounts yourself if needs be and talk to yourself. Nobody ever signs up for a forum that is inactive.

did it work for you? heheh.

My guess- it is the moderators or members base who are gonna make a difference to the success of the forum.
