The websites crawl the web looking (through links) for new sites to index. Get some links pointing to your page, and you will be indexed. You can also maually submit your URL to be crawled. Here is a link from my site that has a list of the submit pages of several SEs: http://www.portprophecy.com/submit.html

I would suggest submitting to Google, Yahoo, and MSN. Many other search engines and portals draw results from one of those 3 three.

You should visit google to search the web directories listed over there and can check the ranking of it and accordingly you can index your website.

I disagree; the question was how to get it indexed quickly NOT how to get it indexed. The best way is if you have a site or a m8 has a site that is indexed often and get them to link to the site. The page should have at least PR5/4 otherwise you need a couple more links just to safe. This page must NOT have tracking.

You would be wrong to trust a directory what with having to wait for a review.

post your link in webmaster forums and ask them to put your link on their high traffic sites (temporary)?

as stated by so many members above..backlinks backlinks backlinks!!..make sure your site map is on your main page..and start submitting it to as many directories and search engines as possible..A simple google or yahoo search for "directory +add url" will keep you busy all day :)..good luck

If you want to get indexed + rank high on all major search engines then you need One Way Relevant Text Links. You can buy these from any good link broker site such as

Two important things that I didnt see mentioned here are:

1 - Sitemaps: A page with the links of all your webspage. Submit this page to search engines and your site will be crawled slightly quicker.
Google has also released a sitemap generator specifically for google - ie you dont need to publish it on your website or maintain it. Im yet to try this out as I just heard of it. You need to have Python installed on your server for this to worl.

2 - Update Frequency: According to Googles new patent, websites with the freshest content have higher importance than those with the same content, but older. Apparently this is to not provide web searchers with "stale" website - make sure you update often and make the changes significat so that you can build a good reputation as a worthwhile website.

In my opinion, once you have Google mastered, your presence on the net grows exponentially.

what is your objective skyfrance ??

only get indexed by search engines or get traffic from search engines ??

if it is traffic that you want, get yourself into SEO. Not a tough work, you can make it with little effort.

Google, Yahoo and MSN can crawl you website within a month time. But only Yahoo (group of search engines) and MSN will provide you the traffic initially. It takes 6-8 months for a new website to get listed in Google SERP (search engine result page).

But trick which can help you, submit your website in Dmoz.org. most of the directories (may be in 100s) are using the datas from dmoz, like google directory, Alexa and many more. so better get listed in Dmoz directory, this could help your site get listed in Google SERP. It really drives traffic which is relevant to the business.

Yahoo is too slow! google has indexed around 4950 pages of my site, Yahoo has indexed only 1 and Yahoo hits my site, around 1200 times a day!
