Keyword tags are useless...at least for any search engines that are important.

Yahoo suggests you use the keyword tag to put mis-spellings in. I think thats a pretty usefull tag for words that are commonly mis-spelt.

Image alt tags and meta keyword tags for misspellings and non competitive keywords.
meta keyword is given very little weight, keep it under 30 words.
focus on the title and meta discription and get a good high keyword density without repeating more than 3 times, remember to use both singular and plural but keep it readable for a user.

Just because Yahoo looks at it, I don't think that it will give you any boost in positioning. It's just to easy to spam. Anything that can be easily spammed, I wouldn't think a search engine, especially Yahoo, would use it to boost your positioning over another site..

But I do agree that possibly, a big possibly, the only use for the keyword tag would be for mis-spellings, but I wouldn't put any huge amount of time into your keyword tag.
