"Those search requests have been overloading the search engines," said Lloyd Taylor, vice president of technology for Keynote Systems Inc., which measures Web site performance.

The worm, Taylor said, was believed to be slowing performance on Google, AltaVista, a business of Overture Services Inc., and the Web site of Yahoo Inc.

I heard about this as well. I never noticed any slowdowns with any of the search engines though. Did anyone notice anything?

I was getting the 503 server error from google all morning on the 26th...Then I found a data center that seemed to work well and put it in my host file...that made searching much more consistant...I also got a 999 error from yahoo...but repeatly clicking the refresh button eventually gave me the search results that I requested. It looks like most of the issues have been cleared up.
