Optimizing a site map ...?

Hello all I posted a similar question in the design forum but i am seeking an answer more towards how to achieve better rankings / crawling with a decent site map..

I have been tasked with redesigning a friends sitemap. The product is automotive paint ( lots of colors )

Right now the site map - to me at least is a mess..
He has type of paint with every color listed ... for ex...

ACRYLIC enamel (link to page with list of colors)
RED - link to red color
BLUE - link to blue color..
ETC
ETC
ETC

ACRYLIC LAQUER
ETC
ETC
ETC

I can post the link if needed hope fully someone gets the idea..there is about 15-20 different colors under each one..

When i did a link search (title / tag )on his site.. all the links come back with all the same verbiage in them ( display name )

My fiance who has been in the industry (SEO) for a bout 3 years now says it looks like spam..

In my redesign / understanding and research it would seem with a sitemap LESS = MORE..

my thought on making this site map are as follows (this basic ruff draft for you all to get an idea )

PRODUCTS
ACYRLIC ENAMAL PAINT (link to page containing this type of paint and all color swatches..intern each color links to its own page ) ** ALSO SOME verbiage DESCRIBING PAINT
