I'm talking now re. redirecting visitors to a new site.

How can I get the search engines to list the url of the new site?

301 re-direct and you need not worry about anything else.

it works this way>>>if you apply 301 re-direct, then the site that you would like the benefits of the redirected site gets it without loosing it's own character. redirects are only used by the way just to put extra traffic from a stable but of no organic use web sites or page from a stable site with existing traffic.
