That really does look "Cuil" ... Seriously ... I love the results that show in the "magazine like" layout ... I am going to use both Cuil and Google for a week or two now for the same searches and base my decision (on which one I'll prominently use) on the most relevant results ... according to me ofcourse ...

I like the display, as well. I'm not sure its results are up to snuff, yet, based on my intial examinations.

//How about this as a benchmark...

Quote:
We didn’t find any results for “britney spears”
Some reasons might be...

a typo. Please check your spelling.
your search includes a term that is very rare. Try to find a more common substitute.
too many search terms. Please try fewer terms.
Finally, try to think of different words to describe your search.

You spelled her name wrong, should be "britney spears", but I get 0 results for the correct spelling... odd.

But...but... I like Google.

I had a discussion with a friend a while back. I realized that I rely on Google for a large number of things, especially in college: Gmail, Google Calendar, Google Docs, web search, etc. It was then that I realized that I'm ok with Google taking over pretty much every aspect of my life.

Google Food, Google DriveToWork (beta), Google Matress, Google Beer.

Ok, maybe not beer.

But this Cuil thing... I like the UI design, but I'm not sure I'll every really switch from Google. There's something inherently better about the simplicity of Google. The article talks about how "Google looks the same as it did 10 years ago, and will look the same a year from now."

I kinda hope so.

I checked it as well. It definitely looks cool. We will see if it perform better than Google...
I wonder if they have some webmaster tools? I would love to index my websites to search engine.

Something seems wildly inaccurate about their result counts. :scratchhead:

That's nuts, I got zero results using that exact same search 45 minutes ago Spoof, now I've got roughly 83,000 results. :scratchhead:

// Edit -- Well that's just plain odd. If I click any of the page numbers, I get the zero results page again.

I searched for sony and my Co-worker did the same, I got 0 results and he got like 9 pages. I had to search it again to get anything, but I only got 2 results.

my search turned up different results again ... firstly:
Quote:
172,600,000 results for sony

And then I really did get heaps of pages, and also, it gave me this little info box thing with other "relevant" results:
Image
you can hover over any of those and then it gives little sub-searches for each of the items in each of the "tabs" ...

It's very disappointing, I've been hoping for an engine to rival Google, I'm bored of them. The bad press is flying around the NET for cuil. They probably just missed their biggest ever opportunity

It seems to me like they entered the wrong query to find their search results ... SELECT everything BUT the site he/she is looking for ... I did a quick search for my own site (OhDesignX.co.za) and came up with a result for my site on another site (seobugz.com) ... so I searched for SEOBugz ... and I found lot's of pages inside the SEOBugz website except for the index page ... Not cool.

That's what you get when you purposely mispell words to be cuil. It carries over into the backend.

I'm declaring Cuil the mullet of the search industry.

I really like the concept after looking at it for awhile.

http://www.cuil.com/search?q=linux&sl=long

Linux Distros, Kernal hacks, Open source, RPM based distros are some of the Categories it gave me to explore. Its an interesting way to help people find more exact searches if they enter something to vague.

No results because of high load...

Due to excessive load, our servers didn't return results. Please try your search again.

Competition is good. Site launch pr with bugs is bad. Should be interesting to see the development in the future.

I'm not so sure about that. They botched a lot of things when they launched the site and have since been getting a lot of negative publicity.

I know they say that any publicity is good publicity, but I don't think that holds true in this case.

Cuil dont display or display less results for same keywords on Goolge ,which clearly suggests that its database is much smaller than Gogle's .So it would take some time for it to come to same level to that of Google.

If you would like Cuil to crawl your site and have it included in our index, please let us know. Be sure to include the URL you’d like us to index in your email.

Twiceler is the name of our robot Web crawler. The user-agent is “twiceler.” We understand that many small sites are bandwidth-limited, so we support the robots.txt Crawl-delay directive. You can read about robots.txt at robotstxt.org and there is a simple generator of the file at mcanerin.com.

If you have modified your robots.txt file for Twiceler, it may take several days for us to re-read the file. If you need something blocked right away, please let us know.

Got a Twiceler question? If you have questions or concerns about Twiceler you can contact Jim. Jim’s the guy who keeps track of Twiceler, when he’s not busy with his horses.

If you would prefer that we not crawl your site at all we are happy to oblige. Just drop Jim a note to that effect and he will place your site or IP address on our do-not-crawl list. Be sure to be explicit about the site to block as email address domains frequently differ from the site in question.
