My confusion is, I have a message board site which is different from a blog or conventional web site (at least to me it is). I'm familiar with meta tags but only to the extent of them being provided to me by a search engine. If I had to make my own, they wouldn't exist. Also it was pointed out that my site was already listed and I checked it out but it was the name of my site and still it didn't list the proper content because I guess the robot picked the member signup page and not the home page. Can this be changed? I guess I pretty much need advice on my particular situation. I've read different ways to optimize etc but it doesn't seem to apply in my case. Any help would be appreciated.

hear that chirping sound? That's what happens when you come in and bad mouth the help here. Please remember we're on a voluntary basis, and have other things to do...c'mon...it's your first post, show some respect & we'll return it. :(

For the how-to's on writing your own meta tags, surf through our search engine threads, or google search for 'meta tag search engine optimization'. Either will return better descriptions than I could give in one post.

Now, as for the member sign-in page, have you any backlinks & did you submit your site yourself? If so, can we get an addy for the site so we can help find out why it would crawl that page first?
I'd love to change the world, but they won't give me the source code.

Sorry to sound so crabby :oops: , I guess I was disappointed a bit not to get a response in 24 hours with such a hugh membership. The only submissions I've done are freebies, I'm not ready for prime time yet unless my site get's a bit more popular. I've done several submissions and none seem to use my keywords. What's funny is, I noticed on one of the sites similar to mine that I've posted on has some keywords that mention my username I use on my site. I'll sift through some of the search engine posts like you suggested to check out the meta tags and my site address you asked for is:

http://bigblueheaven.proboards29.com/index.cgi

Thanks for responding.

Sumbit a site map to Google and get your pages indexed once you've include meta tags.

Here is what you Should have in Place...

<!DOCTYPE HTML PUBLIC "-//W3C//DTD HTML 4.01 Transitional//EN">
<html dir="ltr">
<head>
<title>Search engine submission for a message board</title>
<meta name="description" content="Webmaster discussion on numerous topics including Website design, programming, scripting, hosting, server administration, search engines, and operating systems">
<meta name="keywords" content="HTML, Macromedia Flash, Java Applets, XML, PERL, C/C++, PHP, Javascript, virtual hosting, dedicated hosting, bandwidth discussion, apache, sendmail, MySQL, DNS, BIND, server security, search engines, Windows XP, Windows 2000, Windows 98, Windows ME, Redhat Linux, Debian Linux, FreeBSD, design discussion, traffic trading, link exchanges">

<meta http-equiv="Content-Type" content="text/html; charset=iso-8859-1">
<meta http-equiv="Content-Style-Type" content="text/css">
<meta http-equiv="Content-Language" content="en-us">
<meta name="language" content="en-us">
<meta name="robots" content="index,follow">

This probably isn't to be placed verbatim is it? Isn't there an edit place, like after "description" content= ?

No it's just from the Ozzu forum. What you need to look at is...

<title>Name of your Site - Simple Descip. (35 Charcs)</title>
<meta name="description" content="This will be what is displayed on Yahoo as your result! Had some of your popular keywords too. (135 Charcs)">
<meta name="keywords" content="insert, your, keywords, here">
<meta http-equiv="Content-Type" content="text/html; charset=iso-8859-1">
<meta http-equiv="Content-Language" content="en-uk">
<meta name="language" content="en-uk">
<meta name="robots" content="index,follow">

This a meta tag thing that I had placed in my header for another search engine, notice the difference? Especially in the index. Shouldn't it have a similar index reference as the one you gave me?

<HTML>
<HEAD>
<TITLE>Big Blue Heaven</TITLE>
<META NAME="Keywords" CONTENT="Kentucky Wildcats, message board, basketball, football">
<META NAME="Description" CONTENT="Kentucky Wildcats, message board, basketball, football,">
<META NAME="Author" CONTENT="thebubba@rock.com">
<META NAME="ROBOTS" CONTENT="NOINDEX, NOFOLLOW">
<!-- META Tags generated by http://submitexpress.com/metatag.html -->

This line:
Code: [ Select ]
<META NAME="ROBOTS" CONTENT="NOINDEX, NOFOLLOW">

causes the bots not to index our site properly.
Try changing it to:
Code: [ Select ]
<META NAME="ROBOTS" CONTENT="INDEX, FOLLOW">

What site was that meta info for? Was it a porn site or something? That will tell the crawler/bot/robot not to index your site. There must have been a reason for someone giving you that detail so as not to get the site appear in the Search results.

It was a search engine site. Right now I'm in the process of getting the Google account set up etc. I've got several irons in the fire right now and some of them are very time and energy consuming leaving me little time to get it completed. I appreciate all responses given.
