Here's an example.

say I have two pages

http://www.mysite.com/keyword-1.html
http://www.mysite.com/keyword-2.html

on page keyword-1.html should I have all links that are on that page link back to http://www.mysite.com/keyword-1.html or can I just have them link to http://www.mysite.com?

Will this affect SEO at all if they just link to my main site?

I'm not too clear on your question.

Basically, you should try to link directly to all sites that you want to boost rankings for. Linking back to your main site will help you too, but perhaps not quite as much as linking directly to the page you want.

ok, here's what I mean, I knew that 1st post was complicated :)

Say I have a site called http://www.mysite.com

I want the keyword "banana" on Google so I make a page called http://www.mysite.com/banana.html and optimize that page for the word banana.

Will getting trades with other sites work out better if I have them send traffic to http://www.mysite.com or http://www.mysite.com/banana.html ?

i.e. If I tell everyone to send traffic to http://www.mysite.com, will Google and the other SE's pick up on my banana page even if no links are going directly to that one?

Search engines will find your banana page as long as something is linking to it. Either if you are linking to it or external links are linking to it. If you really wanted to get your page with banana higher, it would be best to have people link to your banana page and use the title "banana" for the link to you. This anchor text is extremely important with search engines, especially Google. So be very cautious on how you tell people to link to you.
